In line with our development and continuous improvement strategy we are building strength and reliability into our engineering team through our highly regarded and refreshed apprenticeship scheme.  Our apprentices are valued members of our team with routes into technical and managerial roles at the end of the scheme.

If you are an ambitious and motivated individual who has a keen interest in building a career as an Engineer in an industry that is constantly changing then our apprenticeship may be what you are looking for.  As Engineering Apprentice, you will complete a three year fully funded college course where you will be trained in a wide range of aspects of automotive engineering to National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 complemented by practical training within our working garages. You will attend college for 6 to 10 weeks each year. On completion of the programme, you will be proficient in both the practical and theoretical aspects of maintaining Passenger Service Vehicles.

It is important for us that you are continuously growing throughout your journey as an Apprentice. You will therefore have the added support of a mentor and a buddy from RATP DEV London who will be on hand to provide you with advice and support. 

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a strong team player who also has the ability to work on their own and make sound decisions when required. What will set you apart is your commitment to customer service and your strong work ethic. You will also have good organisational and time management skills which will include excellent time keeping and attendance. GCSE grade A-C or an equivalent qualification in Maths, English and a science or technology based subject is required. A logical, mechanical and electrical mind-set will be an advantage.

ENGINEERING OPPORTUNITIES

Shift pattern may include early, late, weekend and nights
Salary: £19.37 per hour - £22.23 per hour

Our engineering function is undergoing an exciting period of change and development in order to ensure that the engineering department is fit for the challenges of the future. We are looking for highly motivated individuals who are capable of meeting our customers’ needs which changes rapidly. This is an exciting time to join us and play a key part in helping develop a business that will set the standards that others will follow.

As a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer your main responsibility will be to provide a full range of repair, maintenance and servicing activities for all vehicles in line with the company and legislative standards and requirements. We have a range of vacancies within our garages and these positions operate a number of working patterns which are mainly a flexible shift pattern, and may include unsociable hours.

An NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject such as PCV or heavy vehicle engineering is essential, combined with health and safety knowledge. You should have experience of working as a Mechanical or Electrical engineer in the bus or commercial industry.

Your verbal and written communication skills are just as important to us as your technical skills. Proficient IT skills are essential combined with the ability to use or quickly learn to use any databases or manufacturer diagnostics systems. You will build relationships with the garage’s drivers and service controllers to help ensure a smooth running service. Your ability to work successfully with your own initiative and as part of a team will be what makes you stand out. You will also be recognised for your ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines without compromising the quality of the work carried out.
