Quality bus operators London United and London Sovereign are leaders in the provision of public transport in the capital

Our Origins

London United Busways was set up as a subsidiary of London Buses in 1989. The company can trace its origins to the former London United Tramways, an operator of trams and trolleybuses absorbed by the London Passenger Transport Board in 1933.

Upon privatisation in 1994, London United Busways was purchased by a management buyout and renamed ‘London United’.

London Sovereign’s roots go back to the 1980s when it traded as Borehamwood Travel Services. Today, both companies operate a network of routes on behalf of Transport for London (TfL). We are proud of our roots, our achievements and our ambitions.

Driven by People

As leading bus operators, we strive to provide a consistently high quality service and deliver what we say we will, on time. This requires an enthusiastic, dedicated workforce with a ‘can do’ attitude.

We enable local managers and their teams to work independently and promote teamwork across the business by sharing best practice and good ideas. We believe that by actively learning from each other we can create an environment where we can make the most of our collective knowledge.

Our multicultural, talented team is made up of individuals who possess a the skills and expertise necessary to make a difference in today’s increasingly competitive public transport market.

We employ almost 3,000 staff, maintain a fleet of some 1000 buses and operate services from nine garages.
